“Dinner for One was a nostalgic delight, as we revisited this much loved favourite, but with a twist.
The twist came after the interval, when the tables were turned, both literally and figuratively, with the actors changed places, with James and Miss Sophie now “in drag.” And the guests at the table were now Jan van Riebeeck, Nataniel, Nelson Mandela, General Koos de la Rey, and Bishop Tutu. Dinner for One had become Sopper vir Een, and the nostalgic delight turned into an hilarious farce, with both James and Miss Sophie getting plastered, interspersed with some wonderfully witty and naughty takes on the historical guests (Nataniel historical??), and the cherry on the koek was when van Riebeeck acknowledged that it was “alles my skuld.”
